In simple terms “Jan Bhagidari” means 'participation of people'. 

The term Jan Bhagidari surfaced in 2019 during the second term of current Government. It is an initiative of the government to provide opportunities to the common people to have a say in the public decisions and participate to further enhance India's position at the world stage.

Jan Bhagidari to fulfil the vision of our freedom fighters

Prime minister Narendra Modi, during Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav meet emphasized on the need of Jan Bhagidari to fulfil the vision of our freedom fighters. He also stated that the coming 5 years of his second tenure has to be the years of Jan Bhagidari (People's Participation) and Jan Chetna (People's Awareness). 

Our freedom fighters called for the involvement of the public to fight the invaders. They visioned a nation where the public would fight against the injustice. Examples of such public participation would be seen in Satyagraha movement, Non-cooperation, Non-violence, Hunger strike, Indian rebellion of 1857 and many more throughout the freedom struggle.  

The patriotic fervour which was witnessed during the freedom struggle was unprecedented which was result of Janbhagidari. It is what we need to imbibe in our youths and every citizens and need to be channelise for nation building.

Jan Bhagidari and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav

At present, Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav has created a patriotic ardour in the country and that it is a golden opportunity to establish an emotional connection of youth towards the nation building. 

PM Modi also acknowledged the participation of citizens of the country for the success of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav while addressing the third meeting of the National Committee on Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav in New Delhi. Har Ghar Tiranga is one such campaign where people participated enthusiastically by hoisting the Indian National Flag at their homes to mark the 75th year of India’s Independence. The campaign was wide spread and flags could be seen on almost every terrace and balcony.

The Jan Bhagidari campaign has reached every ministry and each of them is encouraging the public to do their parts. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always said that whenever each and every Indian across our nation takes a step together, our country moves 130 crore steps forward. This is an irrefutable belief in the role of Jan Bhagidari (people’s participation) which make us a prosperous nation. It is by capitalizing on this wave of collective strength and unity, that we will move towards a New India that is TB-free by 2025. Government is focusing on Jan Bhagidari making it a key pillar of governance model. To make a country self-reliant (AtmaNirbhar) importance of people’s participation is immense.

While the government is encouraging and promoting the campaign, there have been places where Jan Bhagidari has always been present i.e. in Casting votes, Protesting-whenever the public feels their rights are being violated, Service in public and government sectors, contesting elections etc. which proves their participation to be important in running a country. 

For the growth and development of a nation, its people need to actively participate in the public affairs and activities on the ground level. A good partnership between the government and the public leads a nation towards greater heights. It also indicates signs of good governance and smooth discharge of duties. While people are actively contributing to the movement, it is safe to say that Jan Bhagidari is indeed an important aspect in connecting the people with the nation and its progress.
